PRESS RELEASE

03 July 2010 PRESS RELEASE
This photo, snapped at the Nurburgring show that Nissan has made some changes to its hero GT-R for 2012. There’s been some revision to the front, with the grille now looking more horizontal. And around the back they’ve restyled the bumper and diffuser and reshaped the flares behind the wheels. It’s likely the cosmetic changes will be applied to both the Spec-M and the hotter-handling Spec-V variants. Nissan has already hinted last year that the Spec-M interior will be softened and luxed-up a little to give it a more premium feel. But the engine is tipped to stay with the current outputs of 353kW of power and 590Nm of torque. There’s no official word on when the new Nissan GT-R will be unveiled, but there’s money on it being at Paris motor show in October.

    Latest News

    25 September '07: |

The Nissan GT-R development team has made another run at the Nrburgring record books this morning--and the Porsche 911 Turbo is no longer its target. Sources intimately familiar with Nissan's latest test sessions inform us that the group is now gunning to beat the Porsche Carrera GT--a remarkably lofty goal considering that that Walter Rhrl reportedly piloted a Carrera GT around the 'Ring in 7 minutes 28 seconds. Another Carrera GT, driven by Horst von Saurma, managed a lap time of 7:32.

Our sources tell us that, thus far, the Nissan has fallen short of the Carrera GT's record-time, but not by much. Our mole tells us that some wet sections of the track slowed them down, and that with optimum track conditions, some heroic driving could still reel in the Porsche Supercar. Nissan reps would not divulge any specific lap times, but they hinted that something under 7:35 may have been achieved. Regardless, it's clear that Nissan's goal of overtaking the 911 Turbo has been achieved in a big way. Stopwatch drama aside, Nissan also gave us some new eye-candy by removing most of the camouflage that has been a staple of GT-R sightings for more than a year now. Although not in showroom shape, the latest GT-R test cars give us our clearest look yet at the prototype's front bumper and headlights, and the GT-R badge is now prominently displayed in the grille-opening, and on the trunk lid. We also managed a pretty revealing interior shot as one GT-R prepared to launch. The rear vinyl camouflage has also been removed, and now only flat-black paint remains to obscure the GT-R's true styling. This is as close as we're likely to get to an undisguised car until the car's Tokyo Show debut.

In their most recent 'Ring runs, Nissan rented the track early Monday morning, and had three GT-R prototypes--spaced one-minute apart--all taking their best shots. One of the GT-Rs was reportedly driven by Horst von Saurma--the same 'Ring specialist that drove the Carrera GT to a 7:32 lap time. Another driver was said to be a Japanese driver named Shimizu--possibly well-known racer Kazuo Shimizu. The third GT-R pilot went un-named.

Nissan will likely continue their assault on the Nrburgring--and on the Porsche legacy--for the rest of this week. If the GT-R manages to do the seemingly impossible and unseat the Carrera GT, we'll let you know.

    Nissan Unveils the GT-R PROTO

    October 19 2005 |

At the 35th Tokyo Motor Show in 2001, Nissan unveiled the GT-R Concept, confirming that the GT-R legend would be continued into the 21st century. Then, at the 37th Tokyo Motor Show in 2003, Nissan announced the next-generation GT-R would be rolled out in 2007. Now with the launch of the production model just two years away, the development of the new GT-R has moved ahead again with the reveal of the GT-R PROTO.

    Ultimate driving pleasure
In essence, driving pleasure means that a car responds faithfully to the driver's wishes and performs precisely as expected. Successive generations of the GT-R have consistently pursued this vision of ultimate driving pleasure.

Whether on the road or the racetrack, the GT-R has always represented ultimate performance combined with handling qualities that stay faithful to the drivers wishes, in all conditions. As a result, the GT-R has built a reputation that extends far beyond just its loyal owner base.

    Exterior design: pure performance
The design of the GT-R PROTO expresses pure GT-R heritage, coming from the first model PGC10 (1969) through R34 (1999), in a new and expressive form.

From its original roots as a pure-bred Japanese performance car, the new GT-R will now be a car sold globally, recognizing its ability to compete with the very best in the world. For the first time in its history, the new GT-R will be designed as a specific body style, and not derived from a sedan.

The design language of the GT-R PROTO is expressed by a distinctive body-style that communicates pure performance and functionality. The form of the GT-R PROTO instantly expresses its purpose and potential, but in a way that is unique to this iconic car.

At the front end, the single center air intake is designed to optimize airflow and to strongly link the identity of the GT-R from R34 to GT-R Concept (2001). Front fenders are uniquely designed through intensive analysis of the airflow around the tires, and the air vent behind the front fender also optimizes aerodynamics. The sides of the body are sculptured towards the rear fender, expressing the power and dynamic tension of the car.

The overall shape of the body combines solid and smooth surfaces to achieve the look of a well-trained athlete. The unique c-pillar crease is designed for optimum aerodynamics, reflecting the racing DNA of the GT-R.

The rear of the GT-R PROTO is strong and well defined. The signature four ring-shaped tail lamps provide an immediate visual link to previous GT-R models. Four large-bore exhaust pipes complete the purposeful look, which could only be that of a pure GT-R.

The GT-R PROTO provides for the first time a clear indication of the final design direction for the production model to be launched in 2007, the first all-new GT-R in eight years

    RUMOURS

    : |

edmunds.com has recently made an article titled: 2008 Nissan GTR Proto, the same name we have suggested and the same date. The GTR will not arrive as a production model in 2007, let it be known. The article goes as follows:
"The 2008 Nissan Skyline may be a couple years away, but we've got the latest spy pictures of a new prototype caught testing on the Nurburgring. Expected to come to the U.S. wearing the Nissan GTR Proto badge, this super coupe from Nissan is the car that Japanese rivals like the Subaru WRX and Mitsubishi Evolution aspire to. We've seen this prototype before, but closer examination reveals some variations that have been added since its last sighting. The rear fascia wears an extended bumper section that hints at the GT-R's longer overall length compared to the current Japanese market Nissan Skyline, otherwise known as the Infiniti G35 in the U.S. The view from behind also reveals pronounced front-quarter panels that extend beyond the G35's stock bodywork suggesting a considerably wider track up front. Same goes for the rear quarters, as the view from the front shows some wide wheel wells destined to house some serious rubber. Regardless of whether it comes over wearing the Nissan Skyline GT-R badge or the Nissan GTR Proto nameplate, expect the usual combination of serious horsepower, all-wheel drive and Nissan's latest technological hardware. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn suggested in a speech to expect around 400 hp from what will probably be a twin-turbo version of Nissan's VQ V6. Internet chatter has also brought up the possibility of a seven-speed sequential gearbox, but even if that doesn't come to fruition a standard six-speed manual should be part of the package. Ghosn has also gone on record with the promise of a production version for the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, but a recent report suggests that yet another concept version may be shown at this year's Tokyo show. Rest assured that regardless of when the Nissan's replacement for the Skyline hits the streets it will be one of the fastest supercars Japan has ever produced."

    Name News

    : |

It looks like the next GTR will be called Infiniti?? Nissan GT-R Proto?? News came around April 25, 2005 when Carlos Ghosn announced Infiniti would be coming to Japan. Recently on 03/31/2004, Nissan Japan registered the "Nissan GT-R Proto" trademark in Japan, which signals that Japan and every other nation will get the GTR, but under the Infiniti name. Since it will be around $60-70k, it needs to be justified under a brand where they sell $50k cars(Q45). The car will be designed by Nissan Design Europe. News also goes that Nissan will have two versions of the car possibly a sport and luxury model, think of R34 GTR V-spec II Nur(race) and M-spec(luxury). Also, one last mention, the Nissan GT-R Proto will no more be linked with Skyline, never again, the 'Skyline GTR' blend is history!

    Release Date

    : |

New information pertaining to the date of release has been revealed. It seems that the earliest time we will get to see a production model is 2008, so forget about 2007 and focus on the year 2008. The Tokyo Motor Show where the new GTR PROTO will be displayed will occur in 2005, during October. This is a time where we will get to see what Nissan has been up to. The earliest we will see a GTR on the streets would be in December, even in Japan. This is too early so we expect it to be released in Q1 of 2008. This is for a fact, if Carlos Ghosn said the GTR will come out at TMS in 2007, if it takes place in October, this only gives reason that we can see it in early first quarter of 2008.

Also, we have reanalyzed information supplied by Nissan, and we are continuing to research the model name and chassis code's. We hope the GTR will be simply GTR, our efforts on it being something else like "V35" or "R35" are unknown on whether it will happen or not.

    GT-R News

    : |

The Next GTR will be explored heavily this upcoming 39th Tokyo Motor Show. Carlos Ghosn will hopefully put a stop to the rumors, and the Next GTR will be the main attraction in the show. In Japan, rumor's are revolving around the VQ32DETT, of which many say will be the choice of engine. Although the GTR will not experience association with the Skyline models, it will still retain round tail lights as evident from the V35 models.

Carlos Ghosn will need to clear up somethings about price, specs, and release dates. It is expected that the GTR come out in late Q4 2007. Nissan's most evident rumor is about the chassis code, whether they will introduce a new one or not. They will certainly need to clear that issue up. The engine is said to be a twin turbo-detuned version of the one found in the fairlady Z33 (350Z) and it is said to have close to 480ps~hp. In the U.S. many rumors surrounding conservative emissions have spurred, those of N/A V8's. Many japanese magazines have speculated on the car's specs.

Mainly it has revolved around the VQ, which might be the same one used in the JGTC since 2003, which coincedently replaced the RB6DETT in some R34 GTR race cars. Many people were discontent with what Nissan released in 2001, the GTR PROTO, but it is said that the new GTR will not dissapoint. The test mule under the infiniti body was said to have been a cover up of the internal structure, the real body is still being under development. What is known, is that the body might reflect that of the 350's, not of the V35's. The Next GTR will set the tone for other car makers, the car having the most advanced technology, such as electrical assited twin turbos as well as 'e-4wd.'

In an effort to globalize the Nissan GTR, Nissan's CEO Carlos Ghosn has promised us in the United States the delivery of the 11th generation 2007 Nissan GTR. Recently the car was spotted at the Nurburgring track in Germany, where the test mule was well dressed in silver attire with silver rims.

We provide finalized specs from NISSAN MOTOR CO., LTD. on the test mule which was badged as an Infiniti. Sporting a body kit and "rx7" type wing, it was ready to prove itself on the track. It is speculated that Nissan brought out the car to test the suspension and chassis stiffness, bodyroll, etc. The car was found to have Silver 6 Piston Brembo brakes up front, and 4 piston in the rear. The rim package is expected to be 20x8.5J(f), 20x9.5J(r) inch aluminum rims on 255/40/20 front, 285/35/20 rear tire size Z rated performance tires.

Holiday Auto reported that the car should weigh in at 1390kg or 3058 pounds. The engine for the Nissan GTR had been decided once the car had finished testing. A VQ32DETT generating an estimated 480ps @ 7,200rpm, 58.0kg/m @ 5,200rpm. The transmission was chosen as well, a 7 speed Getrag sequential transmission, which is sure to be overpowering. The Nissan GTR will be a 2 door coupe, with 4 bucket seats(preferably Recaro).

You can find other articles from reliable magazines covering the Nissan GTR like Road and Track.

It is rumored that Nissan Jidoshi K.K. registered a Trademark as "Nissan GTR Proto" with the description as 'supercoupe due 2007' on 2004-06-08. We have checked the trademark offices of Australia online and found it to be true. The 2007 Nissan GTR will have Carbon and Aluminum Panel providing maximum rigidity.

The 2007 Nissan GTR will be based on a new FR-L platform (Primary Front engine/Rear wheel drive transaxle, motor-assisted front wheel drive or "e-4WD") due to good results from testing. This means that Australia might possibly want to introduce it as the first Infiniti. They have tried before, but have been unsuccesful, but hopefully it will change with the 2007 Nissan GTR. Sources say it might go as an Infiniti in the United States, others beg to differ. As Nissan has yet to announce much formal information on the Nissan GTR we must say that this has been taken into consideration when making this article, but we can assure you everything above is true. Unless Nissan has will to later change anything, we inform you all that the above has been information given to us by Nissan Motors Japan themselves.

Due to emission problems Nissan had with the RB26DETT, it has dropped it and made a new designed VQ engine with better emissions and gas mileage, also reduces oil consumption with a "semi-wet sump" system. There are no current speculations as far as prices go, nor information on models. We have heard that it will show up at the 2006 Geneva Auto Show and later in the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. No expectations for this years Tokyo Motor Show.

The RB motor is dead for the Skyline GTR, and for this model. The new Nissan Skyline GTR will be powered by a VQ engine, much like that of the 350z's, known in Japan as the Z33 fairlady. The chassis code has been finalized by Nissan as the FR-L. This for the first time will be a dinstinct chassis not copied by any other model.

Carlos Ghosn says that the car will arrive no later than 2007-globally. We have a video of the test mule at the Nurburgring in testing, but currently it is only available to forum supporter members. See details at the forum to find out how you can see the video and spy photo's.

The lights of the 2007 Nissan GTR will be fuga oriented, very futuristic with HID's. Unlike in 2001 when Nissan unveiled the GTR PROTO, this new car will meet the standards of every skyline enthusiast and it look's will apply to all tastes.
